If you’re a budding cartoonist and have an internet connection you’ve undoubtedly heard about the Comics Sherpa. Just for information’s sake: The Comics Sherpa service from GoComics.com lets aspiring cartoonists (or established cartoonists with a new idea) tap into the huge and loyal readership on GoComics.com for feedback and exposure. (quoted from the Comic’s Sherpa website).
I can’t really say a bad thing about my time on Sherpa. Sure it has it’s flaws but the exposure can’t be denied. Some folks may argue that an artist gets buried in a ton of bad cartoons. I’m more of the opinion that if your work is good it will rise above it. Think I’m lying? What do all these artists have in common:
Scott Hilburn – The Argyle Sweater
J. Mahood – Bleeker The Rechargeable Dog
Alex Hallett – The Arctic Circle
Frank Page – Bob The Squirrel
Scott Nickel – His and Hers
Justin Thompson – MythTickle
That’s right…all Sherpa folk.
But enough about that. My point in all this was this: The best thing about Sherpa (to me) was the networking. I ran into some of the best up and coming cartoonists out there. Great artists who later became good friends and strong supporters.
So, to honor my Sherpa Brethren, I’m going to feature a post a day for each one of them (and a few other Sherpa artists I think are doing great things. I hope you enjoy them. Tune in tomorrow.
